During my time at NAFA, I explored the fundamentals of 2D design, which provided a strong foundation for my artistic growth. Through various exercises and projects, I developed a deeper understanding of visual composition, balance, and creative problem-solving.
Key Areas of Learning:
Composition & Layout – I learned how to arrange elements effectively to create engaging and visually harmonious artworks. Understanding the rule of thirds, symmetry, and focal points helped enhance my designs.
Colour Theory & Application – Experimenting with colour harmonies, contrast, and emotions in colour schemes allowed me to create impactful visual narratives. It also improved my ability to set moods and atmospheres in my artworks.
Line, Shape, and Form – Studying different types of lines, geometric vs. organic shapes, and how forms interact in a 2D space helped me develop more dynamic and structured compositions.
Texture & Patterns – Exploring different textures, both real and implied, added depth to my designs. The use of patterns also became an essential part of my creative approach.
Typography & Visual Communication – Understanding typography principles and how text interacts with visuals helped me create more effective graphic and print-based works.

The greeting card harmoniously blending Korean & Singaporean cultural elements. The intricate geometrical shapes from the outline of the iconic Merlion & a traditional Korean palace, adorned with festive decorations & intricate patterns, symbolizing the unity of the two cultures.
The greeting message "Merry Christmas" is artistically rendered in both English & Korean, evoking a sense of cultural exchange & celebration between the two nations.

The use of detailed geometrical shapes accentuates the cultural significance of these natural elements, evoking a sense of holiday joy & cultural fusion. The background presents vibrant colours & illustrations of orchid flowers, representing the cultural vibrancy & beauty of both nations, fostering a sense of joy & celebration during the holiday season bringing a contemporary touch to the rich cultural heritage & festive spirit.
How It Benefited My Future Art Creations:
Improved Composition Skills – My ability to create balanced and eye-catching compositions translated into stronger artwork across various mediums.
Refined Aesthetic Sense – I became more conscious of colour choices and visual storytelling, which enhanced my ability to communicate ideas.
Expanded Creative Problem-Solving – Working within design constraints and exploring abstract concepts strengthened my adaptability in different art styles.
Foundation for Digital & Traditional Art – These fundamentals seamlessly translated into my digital illustrations, printmaking, and mixed-media works, allowing me to experiment with confidence.
By mastering these 2D fundamentals, I was able to refine my artistic vision and create works that are not only technically sound but also visually compelling.
