FabArt Café was developed as a collaborative proposal exploring how Somerset Belt could be reimagined as a more inclusive and vibrant creative space for young people. Working alongside teammates from different educational institutions, the project responded to questions surrounding youth engagement, accessibility, identity, and the future of creative communities within Singapore’s urban environment.

The proposal envisioned a hybrid space combining art, fabrication, community interaction, and creative entrepreneurship — functioning as both a makerspace and social gathering point where young creators could experiment, collaborate, exhibit, and share ideas.

Inspired by the energy and diversity of youth culture, FabArt Café proposed spaces for creative production, workshops, exhibitions, informal learning, and community-led activities. The project also explored how art, design, and technology could intersect to support emerging creators while fostering greater inclusivity and participation within Somerset Belt.

One of the most meaningful aspects of the project was the collaborative process itself. Bringing together students from NAFA, SUTD, ITE, and NP allowed us to exchange perspectives across design, art, technology, and community engagement. Through research, discussion, and co-development, the project became not only a proposal for a physical space, but also a reflection on the importance of collective creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration.

FabArt Café reinforced my interest in participatory and socially engaged practices, particularly in how creative spaces can encourage dialogue, belonging, experimentation, and shared cultural experiences within the city.
