The exhibition was held at NAFA from Monday, 26 August 2024 to Friday, 6 September 2024, welcoming visitors to experience the works and reflections born from our cultural exchange.
Following our immersive learning journey to Xiamen, China, we held a meaningful exhibition at NAFA. This showcase presented a selection of student artworks inspired by our cross-cultural experiences and creative explorations during the trip.
The exhibition featured a variety of media — from ink painting and textile art to beading and mixed-media work — each piece offering a personal reflection on the landscapes, traditions, and communities we engaged with in Xiamen. Themes such as nature, heritage, sustainability, and creative identity emerged through our expressions.
It was not only a celebration of what we learned abroad but also a testament to how travel, cultural exchange, and studio practice can deeply shape artistic growth. The exhibition gave us an opportunity to share our voices, experiences, and evolving art practices with the wider community.
The exhibition symbolized both a physical journey and an artistic one — one that continues to inspire us beyond the walls of the gallery.
My artwork theme, inspired by the vibrant flora and fauna of Gulangyu Island, my collection reflects the beauty of nature through tactile craftsmanship and decorative design. My three featured pieces include:
1. Floral Butterfly Beaded Brooch – A delicately handcrafted brooch capturing the shimmer and elegance of a butterfly among blossoms. Ideal as a wearable statement piece or corporate gift.
2. Cross-Stitch Hibiscus with Beads – A vibrant hibiscus rendered in detailed cross-stitch, accented with beads for texture and colour. This piece brings brightness and warmth to any interior setting.
3. Trendy Tote Bag with Bead Embroidery – A practical and stylish tote featuring hand-embroidered motifs with bead embellishment, combining artistic flair with everyday function.
In Loving Memory: Rose's Artwork

During the exhibition, our dear friend and fellow participant Rose showcased a beautiful and heartfelt piece — a Chinese ink painting silkscreened on a gold metallic plate, designed to be both a tabletop stand and a wall display. Her work gracefully bridged traditional technique with contemporary presentation, reflecting her calm presence, refined sensibility, and thoughtful artistic voice.
Rose's contribution added emotional and visual depth to the exhibition. Her piece was quietly powerful — a visual poem that resonated with many. Today, as we remember her, this artwork stands not only as a creative expression, but also as a cherished legacy that continues to inspire all who experienced it.
